Tommi, 'Always The First To Greet You': Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Tommi, a 2-year-old female dark tabby cat, was rescued from a hoarding situation. She loves food. Would you like to meet her?

HUNTINGTON, NY — Tommi, a 2-year-old female dark tabby cat, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.
Tommi joined the shelter in April. She and her two sisters were rescued from a hoarding situation, which Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter, said seems to be a "big problem" these days.
Tommi was in an enclosed space that had 15 or more cats in very tight quarters.

"The person housing them had good intentions but they were just overwhelmed with all of the cats and needed help," Larkin said. "Another rescue heard about the situation and asked if we could step in and we did."
The shelter rescued Tommi on April 24 and brought her and her sisters to its veterinarian for an examination. They were thin but otherwise healthy, Larkin said.

They were placed in one of the free roaming rooms, and one sister was adopted within 10 days. Her other sister is still waiting for her forever home along with Tommi.
Tommi has white paws and a white belly.
"She has beautiful gold eyes that sparkle when you stare into them," Larkin said. "She loves to sit in one of the cubbies with her sister but will also snuggle up with any of the other cats in the
room. She is always the first to greet you at the door, especially if she sees the food plate or the treat jar coming. She is the official taste tester for the room, and will sample from each corner of the plate."
Tommi loves to climb to the highest spot on the condo where she is constantly on bird and squirrel patrol, Larkin said.
"It is a good thing she is an indoor cat because she would give the wildlife outside a good chase. She is also very quick when playing with the balls and other assorted toys in the room."
Tommi is very good with the other cats in the room, Larkin said, so she would do well with another cat in the house.
"Preferably one her age or a bit older. Kittens are a lot of energy and they can be too crazy for her. I
guess she forgets she was a kitten at one time."
Tommi has been totally vetted, is up to date on her vaccines, tested negative for FELV and FIV, and is litter box trained and spayed.
If you are interested in meeting Tommi (or her sister Lulu), you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.
"The year is coming to an end and we would love to see Tommi find her forever home over the holidays so she doesn’t feel like nobody is interested in her," Larkin said. "Won’t you make it a happy Holiday Season for her?"
