Tony Lo Bianco’s The Little Flower is a tour-de-force - a poignant, inspirational and comedic one-man show set in the 1945 City Hall office of Fiorello H. LaGuardia on his last day as mayor. LaGuardia was, of course, the courageous, flamboyant mayor who read comics over the radio to children during a newspaper strike, wiped out a half-century of political corruption, and set a new standard for politicians throughout America. Tony Lo Bianco arrives as himself – then moves in and out of character like magic, flashing back and forth between today, New York in 1945, and to events both triumphant and tragic in LaGuardia’s astounding career. Following the play, Mr. Lo Bianco interacts with the audience, providing insights into political challenges that seem as relevant to 2013 – and the NY mayoral election - as they did in LaGuardia’s day.
TONY LO BIANCO – Obie & Outer Critics Circle Award-winning, actor, director and playwright – was nominated for a Tony Award for his starring turn in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge. He has also starred in the Academy Award-studded 1970 classic, The French Connection, Oliver Stone’s Nixon (opposite Anthony Hopkins), The Seven Ups, The Juror (opposite Alec Baldwin), City Heat (opposite Clint Eastwood), and Bloodbrothers (opposite Richard Gere). He has also worked with Franco Zeffirelli, Lee Strasberg, Anthony Quinn and Sir Laurence Olivier. A former National Spokesman for the Order of the Sons of Italy, his humanitarian awards include the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
