Town Of Huntington Coronavirus Updates: 4 Areas Above 500 Cases

Here's what Town of Huntington residents should know about the new coronavirus.

TOWN OF HUNTINGTON, NY — The number of people with the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, hit 4,933 in the Town of Huntington as of Tuesday afternoon. There are now 41,327 confirmed cases in Suffolk County.

New York State on PAUSE is scheduled to expire Friday, but Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said it's "very unlikely" Suffolk will be among the areas re-opening by then. There are a total of seven metrics that must be met before a region can reopen, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. However, Suffolk County has only met four of the seven metrics, Bellone said Monday.

TESTING

  • Suffolk County opened a COVID-19 testing facility at Huntington High School, at 188 Oakwood Road, Huntington. Testing will be by appointment only. For those with a fever of 100.5 or higher, severe shortness of breath and a persistent cough, they must call 1-845-553-8030 for an appointment.
  • New York State has opened a Mobile Testing facility by appointment only at Stony Brook University. Call to request an appointment at 1-888-364-3065.

SCHOOLS

All state schools will be closed for the remainder of the academic year, Cuomo said.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

Crab Meadow Golf Course in Northport and Dix Hills Park Golf Course reopened, Town officials said. The Dix Hills ice rink and trails are included in the park's reopening. Beaches, parks and trails also reopened to those who wear face masks and practice social distancing, according to the Town. However, Town facilities that will remain closed for the time being include athletic fields, baseball fields, basketball courts, bathrooms, bocce courts, pickleball courts, playgrounds, skate parks and tennis courts.

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci asked the public to report observed overcrowding or violations of social distancing recommendations at Town parks. Town of Huntington officials announced a $1,000 fine would be issued for any violations of social distancing guidelines.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. Cuomo signed an executive order to reopen marriage bureaus across the state and give clerks the authority to perform marriage ceremonies via video conferences.

The Town of Huntington Senior Center at 423 Park Ave., Huntington, and Senior Division facilities were closed indefinitely in March.
