Town of Huntington Honors Man Who Biked 300 Miles to Support Animal Rescue Center

Jonathan Small has gone the distance to show his support for Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center.

A man who biked from Long Island to Washington, D.C, to raise funds for an animal shelter in Huntington was recently honored with a proclamation at a Town of Huntington Board meeting.

Roslyn resident Jonathan Small and his family adopted two rescue dogs, a beagle and a collie mix, from Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center in Huntington several years ago.

After having these four-legged additions to the family for a few years, Jonathan Small and his brother Michael Small, of Port Washington, decided they wanted to give back to the shelter.

For the past seven years, the Small brothers have gone on long bike excursions together to raise funds for Little Shelter. This year’s ride was a solo trip for Jonathan Small. He embarked on his 300-mile trip from East Hills to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, May 26.

“Jonathan Small has been merging his love of cycling with fundraising in an effort to help support the Little Shelter in Huntington, which he has been doing each Memorial Day since 2008,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said at the Tuesday, July 14 board meeting.
