Vanderbilt Planetarium Expands its Universe [VIDEO]
The Centerport-based museum and planetarium is taking its show on the road with a new mobile classroom to teach astronomy and space science
The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium unveiled its new mobile classroom last month at a meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature in Hauppauge.
Part of the museum's science-education outreach program, the 37-foot-long customized recreational vehicle, Discover the Universe, was a gift to the from the American Museum of Natural History.
The traveling classroom contains five stations of study, including: light, telescopes, digital imaging, 3-D universe and gravity.

Program directors say the unit compliments planetarium programs by providing students with modern observation principles for studying space.
Legislators say the traveling museum will also enhance the Vanderbilt’s effectiveness as an educational resource.
