'Very Wiry' Jasper Is Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Jasper, a 3-month-old tiger kitten, is "as active as the Energizer bunny." Would you like to meet this bundle of energy?

HUNTINGTON, NY — Jasper, a 3-month-old tiger kitten, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week. And he is "very wiry," according to Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.
"Kittens…kittens…kittens! Everyone loves them and this little furbaby is the most outgoing and active in the kitten room," Larkin said.
Jasper was born to a stray mom, but his mom was smart enough to make herself right at home in
someone’s house back in July, Larkin said. Two days after his mom (Jersey) found her forever home (unbeknownst to the humans in the house), Jasper and his brother Jax were born in a closet. Jasper and his brother stayed with their mom until they were about 6 weeks old, and then the boys were placed in a foster home that showed them both what life could be like.

"He was raised with lots of other cats and kittens and also 2 dogs...and he gave everyone a run for their money!" Larkin said.
Jasper's mom was adopted by the original home owners who took her in, while Jasper’s brother, Jax, went directly from the foster home to the forever home.

"That didn’t seem to bother Jasper at all, he quickly made friends with everyone in the kitten room," Larkin said.
Jasper loves to play with all of the other kittens in the room, and if nobody else is interested in playing, he can entertain himself. He loves to chase the balls around the room, carries the toy mice from one bed to another and loves to run and bounce off the wall like he is doing the 500-yard
sprint, according to Larkin.
"He is so silly at times that the other cats just sit and watch him because they cannot keep up with him. And then there are times where he has worn himself out and just curls up with one of the others to take a nice long nap."
Jasper is the first at the door peering out so he doesn’t miss anything that might be happening in the hallway. He also wants to make sure that you do not pass by the kitten room and forget to feed them, Larkin said. He will make his squeaky little voice heard throughout the building and even
down the street. The minute you place your hand on the door knob, he is ready to make a run for it just in case you decide to put the food plate down in the hallway and not in the room.

Jasper has been totally vetted by the shelter's in-house vet, tested negative for FELV and FIV, vaccinated, litter box-trained and neutered.
"He would love to go to his forever home with another one of the kittens at the shelter, or if you already have another kitten or young cat at home that would be perfect for him, and for you, so he can’t get himself into too much trouble because he is bored!" Larkin said.
If you are interested in meeting Jasper, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.
"If you are looking for a kitten that has one of the sweetest personalities while being as active as the Energizer bunny, Jasper is your boy!" Larkin said. "He is one of the lucky ones who did not know hunger, pain or discomfort like so many other kittens that we have rescued. Let’s get him into a forever home so we can continue to make room for the others who are not as lucky."
