Young Sisters Sell Lemonade to Save 59 Shelter Pets in Huntington

The girls, ages 6 and 11 months, made hundreds of dollars and donated it all to Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center.

Two sisters, ages 6 and 11 months, helped save the lives of 59 shelter pets in Huntington by setting up a lemonade stand outside their home.

Thora and her baby sister Willow may be young, but the girls knew they wanted to help animals in need. That was when their parents came up with an idea for a lemonade stand after speaking to staff at Little Shelter in Huntington.

The parents and a few neighbors built the girls a lemonade stand and the sisters were soon selling cups of lemonade for 50 cents while handing out Little Shelter brochures.

The hundreds of dollars they raised went towards the shelter's “Clear The Shelters” event this past Saturday, July 23.

"To see children so dedicated to helping the animals and the community is such a wonderful thing," shelter president Maryann said.

In all, 59 dogs were adopted through the event. Thora and Willow’s donations were used to microchip all of the cats and dogs who were adopted at Little Shelter that day.

The girls excitedly visited the shelter and got to meet many of the animals they helped keep safe.

Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center is one of Long Island's oldest no-kill shelters. For more information on the shelter, go here.
