2nd Man Drowns In Suffolk Pool In Under 48 Hours: Police

ISLIP TERRACE, NY —A second man has drowned within 48 hours in a Suffolk County pool, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place Sunday at about 3:15 p.m. in a backyard pool at a home on Irish Lane, in Islip Terrace.

A friend called 911 after discovering Seamus McGuickian, 64, unresponsive in the pool, police said.

McGuickian was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Detectives believe the incident is non-criminal, police said.

It was the second tragedy within 48 hours: The first man who drowned in a backyard pool in Stony Brook Friday night was a former police chief for the New York Police Department, according to the NYPD 115th Precinct.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place at a home on Malverne Lane at about 7:45 p.m. Sixth Precinct officers responded to the home after a 911 caller reported that a family member, Anthony Izzo, 75, was found unresponsive in a pool, police said.

Officers and members of the Stony Brook Fire Department pulled the man from the pool and performed CPR, police said.

Izzo, who lived at the home, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Izzo served as the commanding officer for the NYPD 115th Precinct in 1995. He also served as chief of the Organized Crime Control Bureau.

"His leadership and dedication to the people of New York City left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace," according to a statement from the NYPD 115th Precinct.
