Islip’s Commack Road Elementary School held its annual Balloons Over CRES second grade parade on Nov. 24, bringing socially distanced joy to the entire school. The event was the culmination of an ELA activity where students read Melissa Sweet’s book “Balloons over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade,” which examines the history of the Macy’s Parade and the creation of the giant balloons by puppeteer Tony Sarg.

“We were all in the need of some good old-fashioned cheer and normalcy,” said Principal James Cameron. “Thank you so much to the second grade for keeping this tradition going for all of us.”
