Commack Road TrebleMakers Say YES to League Invite

The vocal ensemble was recently invited to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America."

The Commack Road TrebleMakers vocal ensemble, led by teacher Michael Baur, was recently invited to perform β€œThe Star-Spangled Banner” and β€œGod Bless America” at the League of YES.

Previously known as the Miracle League of Long Island, the mission of the League of YES is to establish and sustain baseball programs for people of all ages with disabilities. The league provides an opportunity for those individuals to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing the national pastime.

After the TrebleMakers performed the National Anthem, many students remained in attendance to serve as β€œbuddies” for the participants of the league. Buddies protect the players from thrown or batted balls, assist the players in batting and running the bases, and offer friendship both on and off the field.

β€œMy students found that being a buddy was not only rewarding but also lots of fun,” said Baur. β€œAll of the TrebleMakers agreed that this was truly a wonderful experience and encourage others to volunteer to be buddies.”
