Islip High School Announces Valedictorian, Salutatorian
The two students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements.

Islip High School’s Class of 2020 valedictorian and salutatorian are Darienne Rogers and Madelyn Germano, respectively.

Rogers, who earned a 106.30 weighted GPA, is an AP Scholar with Distinction and serves as president of the school’s Science Olympiad team. She is a member of Islip’s National Honor Society and student government, attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference, and was a founder of the school’s robotics teams. While playing for the varsity tennis team as a senior, she was named a county doubles champion. Rogers will attend Duke University, majoring in biomedical engineering.
Germano, who earned a 105.87 weighted GPA, is a National Merit Commended Student and AP Scholar with Distinction. She was elected class president for four consecutive years and has been a member of and annual medalist with the Science Olympiad team since 2014 and co-captain since 2018. As a member of the varsity tennis team since 2014 and co-captain since 2017, she contributed to the Lady Bucs six consecutive undefeated seasons and league and division championships, earned 100 varsity wins and won the 2019 NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Award. Germano will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in neuroscience.
