ISLIP, NY— From Islip School District Schools: Islip Middle School student Katherine Cottral recently won first place in the middle school division of the Long Island Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals’ Sustainability Challenge. She was presented with a $150 award for her waste-reduction project, which advocated using household ingredients and buying items in bulk.
“I really enjoyed making my project,” said Cottral. I got to use a bunch of different skills and explore different things in FACS.”
“I’m so proud of Katherine,” said teacher Natalie DeSena. “She worked so hard and is well deserving of this award.”
