Islip School Budget Vote, Trustee Election Results Are In
Islip residents headed to the polls Tuesday.

Islip residents gave the green light to a 2016-17 school budget on Tuesday.
The $80.88 million budget was approved by a margin of 1,251-786. The budget is a 3.36 percent spending increase over the current year and it comes with a 3.36 percent hike in the school tax levy.
The budget pierces the state's tax cap for the district, which is -2.05 percent this year, so the budget needed a 60 percent supermajority to pass.

Danielle Flora and Matthew Clareen were elected to the Islip Board of Education. They ousted incumbents Catherine Romano and Russell Dietz
There are two by-seat positions open. Incumbent Russell Dietz is being challenged by Matthew Clareen and Dominick Pernice. Incumbent Catherine Romano is being challenged by Danielle Flora. Terms are three years.
