Islip High School Closed Monday Due To COVID-19 Case

A staff member at the school tested positive for the coronavirus recently, school officials stated.

ISLIP, NY — Islip High School was closed on Monday after school officials stated that a staff member at the high school tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to Superintendent Ellen Semel, the employee was last in the building on Wednesday. However, out of an abundance of caution the high school was closed for in-person instruction. Students and staff will conduct full-remote learning for the day.

"The district is in contact with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and is working collaboratively with them to initiate the contact tracing process," Semel said.

There has not yet been any update if the school will also remained closed on Tuesday.

According to the New York State COVID School Report, a student at Maud Sherwood Elementary School also tested positive for the coronavirus as of Friday.
