Islip Science Olympiad Students Prep For Event

ISLIP, NY - EXCEL student Jean Johnson, a seventh-grader at Islip Middle School, is preparing for this year’s Science Olympiad.

He worked designing and constructing a Boomilever device, which holds a specified weight a given distance from a vertical surface.

Rules for the competition that Johnson must take into consideration include the Boomilever’s maximum vertical height, how far it must hold the weight from the vertical surface, the maximum weight and the method of attaching the device to the wall.
