Islip Town Officials Prepare For Winter Storm

The storm is expected to hit the area on Thursday.

Islip Town officials announced on Wednesday that they are currently making their final preparations ahead of what is expected to be a significant winter storm this week.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Long Island as up to a foot of snow is expected to fall on Long Island Thursday. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will likely create near-blizzard conditions.

Maintenance workers have ensured that plowing equipment is ready for the first sign of accumulation on our roads.

Salt and sand supplies have been stockpiled at various locations throughout the town, which will allow the crews to make the streets as navigable as possible in all hamlets.

In addition, the Department of Public Safety will be monitoring conditions alongside our Department of Public Works for the duration of the storm.

“Our employees have done an excellent job ensuring that we are prepared for this storm, and we stand ready to plow our 1,200 miles of roadways,” Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said.

Carpenter also urges residents to remove their cars from the streets to allow crews to plow as much as the street as possible.
