Local Lifeguards Honored After Saving Life of Teen
Islip Town officials honored the three lifeguards for their life-saving efforts last month.

Three Fair Harbor lifeguards were recently honored by Town of Islip officials for their efforts in saving an 18-year-old man last month.
On August 17, the lifeguards, Kyle Wilson, Jack Luquer and Peter Lepore responded and performed CPR on a teen who was choking on a fruit pit.
In addition, they administered back blows and Heimlich maneuver. While the teen had a pulse, he was still struggling to breathe.

Luckily, a doctor was vacationing on the beach during the incident and helped the three lifeguards stabilize the boy.
Within seconds, the pit became visible and the teen's father was able to grab and remove it.

The boy was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by helicopter.
"It takes tremendous skills and stamina to perform the duties of an ocean lifeguard," Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "Having to think and act quickly and effectively truly demonstrates the level of training and skill our ocean lifeguards posses and we thank them for their commitment to keeping our Town beaches safe for swimmers and beach-goers alike."
