One Dead In Wrong-Way Crash On Southern State Parkway

The driver of the vehicle that was going the wrong way was pronounced dead at the scene.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY – One person is dead following a wrong-way crash on the Southern State Parkway Tuesday afternoon, State Police said.

The crash occurred at 3:19 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Exit 44W–Sunrise Highway, police said.

According to police, a 1999 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it struck a 2009 GMC Denali head-on. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC sustained minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and the State Police are asking anyone who may have information concerning the crash to call 631-756-3300.
