Police ID Pedestrians In Fatal Christmas Alleged DWI Crash

A man who was killed and a woman who was seriously injured after an intoxicated teen driver struck them have been identified, police say.

ISLIP, NY — Two pedestrians who were hit by a teenage driver on Christmas Day in Islip have been identified, Suffolk County Police said.

Luis Trujillo, 67, of Islip, was killed after an 18-year-old driving a 2004 Honda Pilot struck him and Veronica Deleon, 47, of Brentwood, across the street from Islip High School at 2:44 p.m., police said.

Trujillo was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Deleon was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.

The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said, and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday. His identify has not yet been released by law enforcement.

The driver of the Honda was also taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said, and has since been released.
