A public Facebook group, Islip Residents Against Slaughter House, has already attracted over 400 members as of Tuesday afternoon.
The applicant of the slaughterhouse, Huntington resident Joseph Rosario, had his attorney submit a letter to the zoning board addressing a few of the concerns of local residents, News12 reports.
"All waste is self-contained in special, refrigerated, walk-in boxes and regularly removed professionally," the letter stated, according to Newsday. "There will be no odors, smoke or soot, as there will be no cooking on the premises."
