Early in March, first graders in Lisa Dieumegard’s class at Islip’s Wing Elementary School were treated to a visit from local author and illustrator Nancy Ann Bowe.
Bowe spent the morning reading her stories to the children and teaching them all about honeybees and caterpillars. “Arnie and the Magic Caterpillars” explained the process of metamorphosis, with the students enjoying learning about each of the stages involved as a caterpillar grows and changes into a beautiful butterfly. Ms. Bowe also read her story. Ms. Bowe told the students that she wrote “Queen Bee by the Sea” to teach children to love, honor and respect hardworking honeybees as the pollinators that we all depend on.
