Woman Dies In Crash On Southern State Parkway In Islip

The 33-year-old Islip Terrace woman was thrown from her car after it struck a tree, police said.

ISLIP, NY — A woman is dead following a crash Saturday on the Southern State Parkway in Islip.

New York State Police said officers responded to the crash just before 8 a.m. According to police, the crash happened in the eastbound lanes east of exit 42.

Police said a Honda HRV driven by Melissa Lombardo, 33, of Islip Terrace was traveling eastbound when the car went off the road and onto the right shoulder. The car struck a guard rail and continued down the embankment, where it struck a tree.

Lombardo was thrown from the vehicle, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
