Corona Pedestrian Dies One Week After Car Crash: NYPD
A 68-year-old Corona woman died a week after a driver hit her, blocks away from her home, police said Friday.
CORONA, QUEENS — A Corona woman died one week after she was in a car crash around the corner from her home, police said Friday.
Maria Ruiz-Amaya, 68, was crossing 108th Street about 5:40 a.m. on May 1 when a driver in a 2007 Chevy Silverado turned left onto 108th and hit her, according to police.
Police found the woman lying in the road in critical condition. Emergency responders rushed Ruiz-Amaya to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she died on May 8.

The 65-year-old driver stayed at the scene of the crash, police said.
There are no arrests, and the police investigation is ongoing.
