JAMAICA, NY — The New York City Health Department will conduct mosquito control treatments in parts of Queens and the Bronx next week following continued detection of West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes and elevated mosquito populations in both boroughs.
In Queens, Health Department trucks will spray low concentrations of pesticide Monday, Aug. 24, from 8:30 p.m. through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Spraying in the Bronx is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, during the same overnight hours.
The department said recent mosquito surveillance found West Nile virus activity and elevated populations of adult mosquitoes, including species associated with West Nile virus transmission, in and around the treatment areas.
The treatments will use Duet, an EPA-registered mosquito control product, applied by truck-mounted equipment. Health officials said the risks to people and pets are low, though sensitive individuals may experience temporary eye or throat irritation or a mild rash.
People with respiratory conditions may want to remain indoors during spraying. Air conditioners can remain on, but residents may close vents or use the recirculate setting as an added precaution.
The Health Department's mosquito surveillance program monitors mosquito populations and tests for West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne pathogens across all five boroughs.
