The treatments will use Duet, an EPA-registered mosquito control product, applied by truck-mounted equipment. Health officials said the risks to people and pets are low, though sensitive individuals may experience temporary eye or throat irritation or a mild rash.
People with respiratory conditions may want to remain indoors during spraying. Air conditioners can remain on, but residents may close vents or use the recirculate setting as an added precaution.
The Health Department’s mosquito surveillance program monitors mosquito populations and tests for West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne pathogens across all five boroughs.
