Light Snow Possible Tuesday Night in Kings Park Following More Record-Breaking Cold

A low pressure system may bring snow, but not much, to Long Island Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance for snow will come mainly between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday. Less than an inch of accumulation is expected for most of the island. The Twin Forks are the most likely to see snow, with about an inch of snow projected to fall there, the NWS says. Flurries may fall in New York City, but no accumulation is expected.

Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 31, which should be a welcome change from Tuesday’s record-breaking cold.

New daily record lows were set across the region early Tuesday. A low of 3 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport broke the old record of 17 degrees set in 2011.

Looking ahead, another cold front will move in late Wednesday. Highs on Thursday and Friday will struggle to get out of the lower-20s.

Light snow will be possible once again Thursday night into Friday, but otherwise the rest of the week is expected to be–dare we say it–dry.
