Town Board Meetings Coming to Your Living Room

The Town of Smithtown will now offer live streaming of its town board meetings allowing residents to watch meetings as they happen.

“Town of Smithtown Board Meetings are now streamed live to allow residents to view the meetings from the comfort of their own home. Doing so will save fuel consumption and help the environment,” said Kenneth Burke, Information Technologist for Smithtown.

Other townships such as Huntington and Brookhaven already provide residents access to their meetings which are taped or broadcast.  Brookhaven broadcasts many of its meetings on channel 18, including planning board and town meetings. Spokesperson for the town of Brookhaven, Jack Krieger, said that the town has been dong so since 2006.

According to the town, previously recorded meeting videos are indexed and available for viewing via desktop, laptop or other mobile device.
