1. Kingston Parents, Community Express Concern Over Reduced Music Lessons (shawangunkjournal.com) — Kingston parents and teachers are pushing back against Superintendent Paul Padalino’s plan to cut elementary music lessons from twice to once per six-day cycle to boost math and reading scores. At the Sept. 9 school board meeting, speakers warned the change could erode a long-strong music program, limit access for families who can’t afford private lessons, and reduce students’ motivation to attend school.
   

2. Kingston to start sign project for Uptown buildings affected by canopies demolition (dailyfreeman.com) — If you frequent Uptown Kingston, expect signboard restoration work on 22 North Front and Wall Street buildings where the Pike Plan canopies were removed, starting at 302 Wall Street. Through late September, several Wall Street and Schwenk Drive municipal lot parking spots will be restricted during daytime hours, while the city fast-tracks facade projects and waives signage fees through 2027.
   

3. Two injured in collision in Kingston (newportdispatch.com) — Two 18-year-olds were seriously injured Friday afternoon when their two-wheeled electric vehicle collided with a car at Albany Avenue and Maiden Lane in Kingston, briefly closing parts of both roads. One victim was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston and the other airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, as city police, fire, and multiple Ulster County agencies continue investigating.
   

4. Ulster lawmakers grill county comptroller over UCAT surveillance (midhudsonnews.com) — Ulster County legislators questioned Comptroller March Gallagher in Kingston about her covert video surveillance during an investigation into possible misconduct at UCAT, the county bus system. Gallagher defended the recordings as legal and within her authority, while lawmakers signaled they may update county policy to better address modern surveillance technology and whistleblower investigations.
   

5. Ulster debates short-term rental law (hudsonvalleyone.com) — A proposed short-term rental law in the Town of Ulster could change how nearby Kingston-area homeowners use properties for Airbnb-style stays, tightening permits, occupancy limits, and penalties. Supporters say it will protect neighborhood character and water supplies, while compliant hosts warn overregulation could force historic or inherited homes off the market or into demolition.
