Ulster County to expand emergency housing capacity, shift away from motels (star-telegram.com) — Ulster County lawmakers meeting in Kingston have rejected a moratorium on new placements at the troubled Kingston Motel and instead ordered a 90-day Emergency Shelter Capacity Expansion Plan that could include buying a hotel. For Kingston residents, this shift aims to move families from unsafe motel conditions toward new emergency shelters, while keeping pressure on officials to improve oversight and long-term housing options.

4. Woodstock fire claims one victim (midhudsonnews.com) — A deadly apartment fire in Woodstock’s White Birch Apartments killed one person and injured another, who was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston for smoke inhalation treatment. Investigators from State Police and Ulster County agencies are still determining the cause, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
