1. Ulster County expands warming center hours for winter season (midhudsonnews.com) — Kingston residents facing cold nights will have expanded access to the Kingston Warming Center this winter, with nightly hours starting Oct. 1 and full 24‑hour service from December through March. Located at 80 Elmendorf Street, the center offers safe overnight shelter, with transportation help from law enforcement and hotlines like Family of Woodstock for anyone in crisis.
2. Busy Kingston street safety improvement study findings set to be released (dailyfreeman.com) — Kingston drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians may soon see safety upgrades along Ulster and Albany avenues, as county planners prepare to unveil a detailed corridor study on Oct. 20. The public can weigh in at a Town of Ulster meeting and through an online mapping tool that pinpoints crash patterns, speeding, and trouble spots from the Kingston roundabout to Route 9W.
3. Hearing Notice: HUD Project (shawangunkjournal.com) — Kingston residents living in older apartments should know Ulster County is holding an October 20 public hearing in Kingston on a multimillion‑dollar HUD-funded lead hazard reduction program focused on up to 150 City of Kingston units. Income-eligible households with young children may qualify for remediation and temporary relocation support, and written comments are accepted through October 18.
4. What's for Dinner? Adriana Perez's Camarón Enchilado (radiokingston.org) — Kingston food lovers can catch Manolo's Cuban Café at the Kingston Farmer's Market on October 10, where Adriana Perez serves family-inspired Cuban dishes. She's also sharing her Camarón Enchilado recipe, a shrimp-in-tomato-sauce classic built on sautéed peppers, onions, garlic, wine and spices, perfect to pair with white rice at home.
5. Vehicle strikes building in Kingston (newportdispatch.com) — Emergency crews in Kingston responded after a 92‑year‑old driver accidentally drove a car into a building at 33 Grand Street on Sept. 29, causing only minor structural damage.
