• A Historical Connection to George Washington in Town of Kirkland (wktv.com) — George Washington once co-owned over 6,000 acres in what is now the Town of Kirkland, including land between Oriskany Creek and today’s Westmoreland-Kirkland line. A historic marker at Foote Road and Route 233 and Washington Road itself still commemorate this surprising local connection between Kirkland, Clinton, and the first U.S. president.
