• 4 Suffolk beaches closed to bathing due to high bacteria levels (newsday.com) — Ronkonkoma Beach on Lake Ronkonkoma is temporarily closed to bathing after Suffolk health officials found elevated bacteria levels in the water. Three other Suffolk beaches are also affected, and the closures will stay in place until new tests show the water is safe again. Residents are urged to avoid swimming to prevent possible stomach and ear, eye, nose, or throat infections.
