3 Fires Tax New Rochelle Fire Department Monday
The New Rochelle fire fighters were kept moving by fires almost happening simultaneously.

It was a busy day Monday for firefighters in nearby New Rochelle.
NRFD Chief Louis DiMeglio said there were three fires for which calls were received in a period of an hour and a half.
He said the first fire was called in at 12:12 p.m. when something, possibly a discarded cigarette, ignited material in a trash can that was next to the outside wall of a laundry room at 149 Eastchester Rd.

Not only was there fire damage to the wall and overhang, but the fire fighters had to take down part of the wall to fight the flames.
While the fire department was still at that scene, a call came in a little after 1 p.m. about a basement fire at 29 Disbrow Ln.

DiMeglio said it was actually a couch in the basement had somehow caught fire.
"We don't know the cause," he said, adding that the owner said she had been gone for only a few minutes and returned to find a smoky fire.
The fire fighters took care of the fire in about a half hour.
No sooner had they finished on Disbrow Lane than a call was received about 1:40 p.m. for a fire at 66 St. Johns Pl.
DiMeglio said the call originally came in as a structure fire, but when fire fighters got there it was a fire on the front porch of the house.
"Because of the wind, it looked like the fire was coming out of the window," he said. The fire was quickly extinguished.
There were no injuries at any of the fires.
DiMeglio said it was an unusually hectic day.
"We ran from one fire to the next then to the next," he said.
