3 Men Arrested In Mamaroneck For Robbery, Attempted Robbery

Police said the three defendants robbed, attempted to rob and menaced three men in the village.

MAMARONECK, NY — Three Mamaroneck men were arrested Aug. 30 after a robbery / menacing / assault spree that involved three separate victims. Village of Mamaroneck Police Chief Christopher S. Leahy said Shammaya Mills, 30, and Angel Alvarado, 17, were both charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree attempted robbery, felonies. Julio Alvarado, 22, was charged with the aforementioned counts as well as resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

Police said at around 9:20 p.m. Aug. 30, a 51-year-old Mamaroneck man said he was standing on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Mount Pleasant Avenue when he was approached by three men. After a brief verbal exchange, the victim took out his cell phone to call 911. Mills then punched him in the face, and took his cell phone and baseball cap, police said.

The three men fled the location on foot.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene.

Then, around 11:35 p.m., the second victim — a 20-year-old White Plains man — said he was driving his car, which stopped at the red light on Mamaroneck Avenue at Hoyt Avenue. The three men approached his vehicle, police said.

Mills tried to open the passenger side door of the man’s vehicle which was locked, according to authorities.

Fearing for his safety, the second victim drove south on Mamaroneck Avenue where he spotted a police officer and told him what had happened.

Ten minutes later, the third victim, who is a 32-year-old Mamaroneck man, said he was sitting on the curb in the 100 block of Gertrude Avenue talking on his cell phone when, according to police, all three of the defendants began punching and kicking him.

The man was able to get away to seek help and refused medical attention.

During a search of the area by police, the three men matching the descriptions provided by the victims were located in the 800 block of Mamaroneck Avenue.

They were taken into custody and are being held pending arraignment in the Village of Mamaroneck Court.
