$4,500 Pill Theft From CVS In Larchmont

A former pharmacy tech was charged with grand larceny after he took over $4,500 worth of pills from a CVS location on 1310 Boston Post Rd.

A former pharmacy tech at CVS on 1310 Boston Post Rd. in the Town of Mamaroneck was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny after he took over 4,600 Hydrocodone pills, 279 Xanax pills, 15 Viagra and 30 Cialis pills, according to Town of Mamaroneck (TOM) Police Lt. Robert Koziak.

The pills were worth in excess of $4,500, said Koziak.

Nicholas Carino, a New Rochelle resident, was arrested at the CVS store this past Friday, after a CVS Regional Loss Prevention Manager tipped off police to the theft.  The crime occurred between October, 2009 and March 25, 2011, according to TOM police.

Two of the four drugs are controlled substances, as classified by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA): Hydrocodone, or dihydrocodeinone, is a Schedule II or III Controlled Substance depending on it’s mixture with other drugs that dilute it’s potency; Xanex, or alprazolam, is a benzodiazepine and a Schedule IV Controlled Substance.

Cialis, or Tadalafil, and Viagra, or Sildenafil, are phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors that are used to treat erectile dysfunction, and are not considered controlled substances by the DEA’s classification.

According to a public statement issued by CVS Director of Public Relations Mike DeAngelis, "Drug diversion is a serious matter that we work hard to prevent.  We have security procedures in place to detect such activities and when they do occur we alert the proper authorities.  We are cooperating with Mamaroneck Police in their investigation of this matter."
