Mac Benson is one Mamaroneck teen who enjoys working in the community and networking with golf enthusiasts from the region. A junior at Mamaroneck High School, Mac is in his second season working in golf operations at Hampshire Country Club.
“I've really enjoyed working at Hampshire because it gives me an opportunity to work within my community and gives me job experience at a young age that will help me later in life, said Benson. “I was always told my boss, Will Robinson, that my responsibility was to add to the member experience and to provide the members with a top tier level of service. Plus, I love golf, so going to work and getting to talk to experienced players is really fun. The philosophy of providing my best work is a work ethic applied to my education, athletics and future work experience.”

“Hampshire Country Club is committed to providing employment opportunities to young people from our community,” said Stephen Till, Hampshire Country Club General Manager. “The summer season is a busy time for us and particularly in a tough economic climate will afford local students and young people the chance to learn new skills, increase responsibilities and build up their resumes.”
Mac is working with two other teens in golf operations, six teens working in the Summer Snack Bar and 8 teens, including Matt Green, working as pool lifeguards.
Matt Green, who is saving money for college, is in his third season working at the Club . A graduate of Mamaroneck High School and an Eagle Scout, Matt had this to say about working at Hampshire: “Working at Hampshire Country Club the past two summers has taught me a lot about responsibility and time management. It has also given me the opportunity to interact with lots of different people in the community that I live in that I would not have met otherwise.”
In 2009 Hampshire Country Club closed due to deteriorating economic conditions and a significant loss of membership. The Club was purchased and re-opened in 2010 and has grown from 0 to 370 members, invested and improved facilities and been restored as an important community amenity.
The 116 acre Club offers a Devereux Emmet-designed 18-hole golf course, seven Har-Tru tennis courts, beautiful golf and tennis pavilions, heated swimming and wading pools overlooking the Long Island Sound, a newly renovated 35,000 square foot clubhouse and limitless social and dining possibilities, from upscale choices in our executive dining or banquet rooms to more casual options in the bar or grill.
