Beach Season Extended For Extra Weekend Dates At Harbor Island
If the weather cooperates, the Harbor Island beach and "sprayground" will remain open for swimming for 2 extra weekends after Labor Day.

MAMARONECK, NY — Labor Day weekend might be the unofficial close of the summer season, but this year, the summer fun will keep going in Mamaroneck.
The Village of Mamaroneck has announced extended swimming and sprayground hours at Harbor Island Park. In September, the Stephen E. Johnston Beach will remain open on five weekend dates.
Weather permitting, the beach will offer bonus weekend days on Sept. 8, 9, and 10, as well as Sept. 15, and 16.

The beach and sprayground operations will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the selected days. Parking is free after Labor Day. Beach entrance fees will apply for the extended season dates and seasonal beach passes will be honored.
"The season traditionally ends on Labor Day. Unfortunately, this summer was particularly wet and the beach was often closed for swimming so we are giving our residents a chance to extend the summer fun into the middle of September," Mayor Tom Murphy wrote on social media. "We will monitor the participation of residents and if it’s a success perhaps it will become a regular occurrence. We are constantly looking for ways to improve and increase the services we provide to our residents. I’d like to thank the Recreation Department for their hard work in making this plan a reality."
