At the core of Occupy Wall Street supporter's desire is the demand
for social and economic transparency. And this nation’s level of transparency
is traceable to that of our public schools. For example, as all of this
nation's people are victimized by a disappearance of a middle class, public
school children so too are victimized by the unfair distribution of funding,
also based on wealth. Zip code funding of public schools unethically separates
everyone. Social constructs legitimize gated neighborhoods and associate
“gates” with quality. Our public school children are also "gated"
with the same exclusionary objective via legal strategies such as special
education selections, all types of cultural biases including the many found in
standardized testing, and credence to high stakes testing results. As public
schools go, so does this nation. Patience can be immoral. Hence, we have Occupy
Wall Street.
