Jocelyn Kleinman from the Sheldrake Environmental Center will lead the group along the Sheldrake River Trail on Sunday, January 8, at 1 p.m. The rain date will be January 15.

"The winter can be a hard time of the year to investigate and identify trees," organizers explain. "For the most part, they aren’t robed in their distinctive leaves, flowers, or fruit. Come learn how to be a tree detective and use other clues to identify our winter trees. All the while we’ll be together, enjoying the trees and trail on a winter day."

Participants will enjoy a winter afternoon stroll learning how trees adapt to the season, and see firsthand why trees are so important in the life of our community, preventing flooding and erosion as well as soaking up and storing excess greenhouse gases.

Everyone will meet at the stone wall alongside the trailhead on Rockland Ave, around 90 Rockland Ave in Larchmont. Children must be chaperoned by an adult.
