September means the start of the school year for adults, too, at The Center for Continuing Education in Mamaroneck. The Center’s classes are a great way to learn skills, meet friends, and engage in lively discussions as you explore new topics and places.

Classes in French, Spanish, Italian and German begin the week of September 9. Whether you want to learn a new language or brush up on one you already know, there is a class for you. Teachers are native speakers and classes are not like the ones you took in high school. Learning is experiential and may include a wine tasting while speaking French or making a pasta dish as you converse in Italian.

Art classes including Watercolor, Oil Painting, and Ceramics also begin the week of the 9th. Mahjongg, Golf, Broadway Basics with a Beat, Intro to Irish Dance, Yogalates, and Tai Chi begin the week of September 17.

The Center is known for its day trips led by expert guides. Fall trips include: The Mana Contemporary in Jersey City with Ronnit Vasserman; Repurposing 34th Street—Then and Now with Ginny Poleman; and a visit to Sunnyside, Washington Irving’s home, to coincide with the 200th anniversary of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Led by Larchmont resident Elizabeth Bradley, it includes a private tour of Sunnyside, decked out for Halloween. There is also a private studio tour at the home of nationally-known sculptor Bob Clyatt.
