Community Libraries Offer New Online Services

Larchmont and Mamaroneck Public Libraries announce great new services for 2017!

The public libraries in Larchmont and Mamaroneck are pleased to announce three important new online services to the community for 2017, made possible through Westchester Library System. The services include a new wide-ranging news service, comprehensive language learning courses and a groundbreaking digital media service. As with all library services, using them is free and all that is needed to gain access is your Larchmont or Mamaroneck library card. These services, along with the library’s other online services, are available 24/7. By the way, if you don’t have a library card, they are also provided free of charge.

PRESS READER:

Press Reader is a new service that provides you with an endless stream of news stories to read, discuss and share. You’ll have access to over 6,000 top newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries, just as they appear in print. You decide which ones you want and which ones you don’t. You can build a virtual library that includes the most current editions of the newspapers and magazines you choose. Publications in a foreign language can be instantly translated using the digital tools provided by Press Reader.

HOOPLA:

Hoopla is a groundbreaking digital media service that allows you to borrow movies, music, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet or smart phone and even your TV! One of the prime advantages of Hoopla is that there is NO waiting for the items you want to borrow. Items can be streamed immediately or downloaded smart phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. Items are automatically returned and removed from your device at the end of the lending period, so you don’t have to try and remember to return them when done.

MANGO LANGUAGES:

Mango Languages presents language study in a fresh new interactive experiential way for the learner. Step-by-step lessons are available for 78 different languages. Also available are ESL (English as a Second Language) lessons for Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese speakers. Language learners around the world have used Mango Languages to learn new languages, connect with new cultures and broaden their horizons.

Westchester Library System (WLS) collaborates with the 38 public libraries in Westchester County to provide access to resources and services and to enhance and support library service for the more than 940,000 county residents.
