Delays Continue for Stairs Project at Mamaroneck's Murray Avenue School
Crews likely will not complete work on the project until the summer of 2015, according to Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Shaps.

The following is the text of an email sent out Wednesday by Mamaroneck Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Shaps concerning the ongoing renovation to the stairs at Murray Avenue School:
Dear Murray Ave. School Parents & Community Members,
I wanted to provide you with an update on the Murray Ave. School stairs project. At this point in time, the project is at a standstill as a direct result of the surety company’s (required by State law) ongoing investigation and assessment of the work site and the work conducted by the contractor terminated by the District. While we hoped the surety company would move quickly and authorize a new contractor, the process has been slow going as the surety company, in meeting its obligation to protect the District, must follow strict State regulations when one contractor is terminated and another is being hired.

As indicated previously, we have decided to limit the project work to non-school hours so as to avoid interruptions for students. Thus, the available number of after-school hours, coupled with the short daylight in the coming winter months, makes it unlikely that the work will be completed before summer, 2015.
Our team of engineers and architects will continue to make frequent visits to the site to ensure safety. We recognize the inconveniences resulting from this project delay, and thank you for your patience as we wait to get the green light to move forward.
