Dramatic Rescue After Car Ends Up In Frigid Water On The LI Sound Shore

VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK, NY — The efforts of rescuers on the shoreline were complicated by frigid temperatures as they raced to save a driver who ended up in the water yesterday afternoon.

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department says that on Tuesday, at 2:16 p.m., officers rushed to Cove Road, near Eagle Knolls Road, after receiving a report of an accident where a car had gone into the water.

Once at the scene, police found the vehicle that had left the roadway and had become partially submerged in the water, with the driver stranded.

The occupant was soon rescued. Once on dry land, the driver was evaluated by emergency medical personnel, before being taken to White Plains Hospital. Police say that the person was in stable condition during transport.

Members of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department, the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department, Mamaroneck EMS, and the Larchmont Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded to the scene.
