EnergySmart Homes Event In Mamaroneck Could Help You Save Big Bucks

Representatives from Sustainable Westchester, verified contractors, local energy advisors and other experts will be available for questions.

MAMARONECK, NY — Energy costs are at record highs, but Mamaroneck officials have some ideas about how homeowners can avoid the pain and help the environment.

The Village of Mamaroneck's Committee for the Environment is collaborating with Sustainable Westchester, the Town of Mamaroneck and the Mamaroneck Public Library this weekend to help local residents learn about energy and cost-saving home solutions. The event will take place on Sunday, from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Village Courthouse, located at 169 Mt. Pleasant Ave.

Since joining Sustainable Westchester's EnergySmart Homes (ESH) Program, the Village of Mamaroneck says that it has committed to making information about energy-saving home solutions available to residents. Through the ESH Program, homeowners are connected to resources and expert advice about energy-saving home retrofits. Organizers say that this weekend's event will provide a forum for residents to learn about incentives, rebates, licensed contractors, and other resources for home heat pump installation, insulation and air-sealing.

"The Village of Mamaroneck is committed to supporting the reduction of energy usage, in a way that not only saves money but also makes our village greener," Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy said. "This event is an opportunity to come together and work towards a more sustainable and resilient community."

All residents are encouraged to attend regardless of their prior knowledge about heat pump technology or insulation. Representatives from Sustainable Westchester, verified contractors, local energy advisors, and other experts will be on hand to answer any questions.

"Achieving the environmental goal of reducing our carbon footprint, and the economic goal of saving money, are literally two sides of the same coin," Chair of the Committee for the Environment David Freeman said. "This event will show Village residents how to do both. Anyone who wants to save on their bills and help the environment at the same time should definitely plan to attend."

The EnergySmart Homes program has helped thousands of residents navigate energy efficiency audits and complete 800+ clean heating and cooling upgrade projects, according to the village. The program also connects income eligible residents to NYS-sponsored financial assistance options.

"In New York State, buildings are the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions and co-pollutants, which means building decarbonization is a critical component of the clean energy transition," Lauren Brois, Sustainable Westchester's EnergySmartHomes Program Director said. "Sustainable Westchester encourages residents to learn how they can be a part of this transition by improving their own homes with clean energy solutions. At the session, residents can expect to learn about which rebates and incentives are available from the local utility, state and federal government."
