Explore-a-thon Promises a Day of Play at the Westchester Children's Museum

SCIENCE, ART, CRAFTS, MUSIC, TINKERING, BUILDING, ANIMATION AND FOOD TRUCKS THE AT WESTCHESTER CHILDREN'S MUSEUM, OCTOBER 21 10am - 4pm

Explore-a-thon, the Westchester Children’s Museum’s signature annual educational and cultural event, is an interactive day of play, experimentation, and discovery for children and their adults. Visitors will discover “Exploration Stations” winding through the current exhibits in the Boardwalk Galleries of the Museum and behind the scenes into the as-yet undeveloped behind-the-scenes space of the Museum’s historic landmark site. The Explore-a-thon combines original activities developed by Westchester Children’s Museum educators and programs developed in partnership with local arts and science organizations and experts including:

  • Deconstruction Workshop (take apart everyday electronics and see what’s inside)
  • Mini-golf hole in one challenge
  • Architecture and Engineering challenges
  • Word collages with artist Michael Albert
  • Magnet science
  • Nature-based activities with specialists from Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary

Special programs at the Explore-a-thon include:

  • Animation Workshops with Blue Sky, the movie studio that created the Ice Age movies and the upcoming release Ferdinand. Each child in the workshop will create their own mini animation project. The program is led by an animation artist who worked on Ferdinand. Best for ages 7+. Workshops offered at 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, space is limited.
  • Weather safety workshops with weather experts and on-air talent from StormTeam4/NBC. The Storm Tracker truck will be on hand for exploring and photos
  • Orthopedists from NYP Lawrence Hospital will lead an interactive health and strength program

Food trucks, including Brick oven pizza from Abeetz and homemade ice cream from Longford’s,
will be parked outside of the Westchester Children's Museum, overlooking the Boardwalk and the Long Island Sound.

The day long event is included with regular admission to the Museum of $7 per person and Free for ages 1 and under. Free parking available in the Playland Amusement lot. Visit www.DiscoverWCM.org for further information and advance tickets.
