FIELD OF DREAMS TO BECOME A REALITY AT LORENZEN PARK

The new home for Little League at Lorenzen will feature 3 fields for baseball and softball, electronic signs, concession stand

On Memorial Day, Jim Hanley, President of Fields for Kids (FFK), Bill Nachtigal, President of Larchmont Mamaroneck Little League (LMLL), and New York State Assemblyman Steve Otis presented a check for $1.6 million to Larchmont Mayor Lorraine Walsh for the construction of a new baseball complex at Lorenzen Park. The project will include two state-of-the-art natural grass ball fields, electronic scoreboards, a concession stand, a paved parking area with safe drop-off zone and improved restroom facilities. In addition, the existing ball field will receive upgrades including batting cages, fencing and protective netting.

According to Mr. Hanley, "Fields for Kids is thrilled to partner with Larchmont Mamaroneck Little League and the Village of Larchmont on the Lorenzen Park Improvement Project. This is the culmination of an effort that began with donations to Fields for Kids in 2007. The Village contributed $145,000 for engineering and permit fees. Then, thanks to Steve Otis, we received a $250,000 grant from New York State in 2015 and Fields for Kids worked with Little League to raise the remaining monies to cover the $1.6 million construction budget."

Little League's Nachtigal says, "We are excited that Lorenzen Park will allow us to have multiple baseball and softball games at the same time in a single place. We think the value of this complex goes beyond youth sports and will be an asset for the entire community. We know that relationships are built not only on the fields, but in the stands and that lifelong bonds are formed that are integral to building community.”

"I am very excited that everyone's efforts will allow the Lorenzen Park construction to proceed this year. The new fields will be a great improvement for all the players in Mamaroneck and Larchmont. Congratulations to all on this great team effort," says Assemblyman Otis. Mayor Walsh adds, "The Village of Larchmont is looking forward to a smooth renovation of the

Lorenzen fields, creating a wonderful baseball park. We thank Fields for Kids for all of their efforts and the generous donation which makes this project possible."

Con Tech Construction Technology Inc. has been selected to build the two new ball fields. Ground breaking is scheduled for end of June 2016. The fields are expected to be playable in summer 2017. The existing field will be out of service summer/fall 2016 and back in service for the recreation season Spring 2017.

According to Mr. Hanley, "Fields for Kids is looking forward to the new home for baseball. We are proud to continue to help provide safe playing fields to support the 6,000 kids who play sports in our community.”
