Plates' Five-Course, Wine-Coupled Dinner Honors Oregon Winemaker

An Oregon winemaker will be the guest of honor at a five-course, prix-fixe, wine-coupled dinner to be held at Plates in Larchmont on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

Mark Vlossak, who founded St. Innocent Winery in Willamette Valley, Oregon in 1988, will describe philosophies that govern his winery's operations and fine tuning techniques it has developed in the pursuit of flavor and aroma.

Only one seating is scheduled for this event. Guests will gather at the bar at 7 p.m. and spend about 20 minutes getting acquainted and tasting hors d'oeuvres accompanied by a glass of St. Innocent's pino gris.

Hors d'oeuvres

  • Yellow tomato gazpacho
  • Braised short-rib pastrami sliders with Kimchi, Chinese hot mustard
  • New Orleans style broiled oysters with pickled ramps

Plates opened in 2004 after chef/owner Matthew Karp and his wife Wendy bought the historic structure which is more than one hundred years old. Located not far from the Larchmont train station, it was built as a rest house for New Haven railroad engineers and conductors. The building was converted to a speakeasy during Prohibition and then to a restaurant in 1950 by George Carl who named it Carl's on the Park.

The walls of Plates are decorated with plates collected by Matthew Karp from restaurants he worked at or visited in the U.S.A. and abroad during his cooking career.

The cost for the June 11 wine-paired dinner is $95 per person plus tax and tip.

Plates Restaurant is located at 121 Myrtle Blvd, Larchmont, NY, 914-834-1244, www.platesonthepark.com
