Course Set For 'Most Important Ever' Fuller Center 'Walk For Homes'

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — The Fuller Center of Greater New York will celebrate the 21st anniversary of its annual "Walk for Homes" fundraising event on Sunday, but never in the last few decades have the organization's particular needs been quite so urgent.

As cold weather begins so settle on the Sound Shore, the New Rochelle-based chapter of the group is especially dedicated to help local families, seniors and veterans afford homes in the greater NYC area. Sunday's walk will help to support those efforts.

Director of The Fuller Center for Housing of Greater New York City, Jim Killoran told Patch that this weekend's walk is one of the organization's most important events of the year. He noted that the walk is just a week after the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy and kicks off the group's Veterans Day housing drives.

"The crisis of housing, flooding, the exodus out of New York is stopped every time a volunteer picks up a hammer, paints a wall, delivers a sandbag, rehabs or builds or helps a family with a new home," Killoran said. "Both in witness and in raising donations, this is our most important walk ever. Please join us or donate."

This fall's "Walk for Homes" is being organized in conjunction with the Church of St. Augustine in Larchmont. The two-mile walk, planned as more of a pleasant stroll, will start at 1 p.m in Constitution Park, head towards the Manor and circle back.

Starbucks will provide refreshments at the start and the Church of St. Augustine will hold a reception afterwards.

Those hoping to support the Fuller Center's work don't necessary need callused feet to help out — there are a number of other ways to contribute.
