Garbage Collection Newest Casualty Of Omicron Staffing Shortages

The sanitation commission that serves two Westchester municipalities said there are changes in the collection schedule this week.

LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK, NY — From supply chain issues to school calendars in limbo, the emergence of the omicron variant has now affected nearly every aspect of our lives, including taking out the trash.

"The Joint Sanitation Commission like many other agencies is now experiencing staff shortages related to COVID," the agency said in a statement announcing the coronavirus-related schedule changes. "We are working to continue regular weekly garbage and recycling collection services but in order to do that, there will be changes in the collection schedule this week."

The temporary changes will affect those is the Town of Mamaroneck and the Village of Larchmont. The Village of Mamaroneck is not a part of the joint sanitation commission.

Starting on Wednesday a modified collection schedule will be in effect:

  • Tuesday (1/4) — Regular garbage collection.
  • Wednesday (1/5) — Newspaper collection only.
  • Thursday (1/6) — Garbage and bottles (bottles and cans must be separated from garbage).
  • Friday (1/7) — Garbage and bottles (bottles and cans must be separated from garbage).
  • Additionally, the Maxwell Avenue Recycling Center will closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Mamaroneck Sanitation Commission website will be updated if further collection schedule changes are needed.
