Harrison Suspect Arrested In Mamaroneck Armed Robbery: Police

Cops said the weekend gunpoint mugging and assault took place just after 4 a.m. on Mamaroneck Avenue.

MAMARONECK, NY — Mamaroneck police say they eventually caught up with an armed robbery suspect from Harrison, who briefly eluded capture.

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department received an emergency 911 call reporting a robbery at gunpoint on Mamaroneck Avenue near Grand Street in the early morning hours Saturday. The victim, a 21-year-old man from Mamaroneck, said the mugger approached him, pointed a handgun at him and demanded money.

The victim complied with the demand and reportedly turned over several hundred dollars.

The mugger then hit the victim in the face and fled, police said.

On Monday, investigators say they were able to identify a suspect. Detectives spotted the suspect during the investigation, but when they identified themselves as police officers, the suspect fled the area on a bicycle.

On Tuesday, detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home and found an imitation handgun they believe was used in the robbery.

The suspect was only identified by authorities as a 24-year-old man from Harrison. He was charged with felony robbery, felony criminal use of a firearm, felony criminal possession of a weapon and felony assault.

The accused mugger was arraigned in Village of Mamaroneck Court and bail was set at $5,000 cash, according to Mamaroneck officials. He was unable to make bail and was instead booked into the Westchester County Jail.
