Firefighters Extinguish House Fire in Orienta
The Seahaven Drive home was unoccupied because of construction. A cause is to be determined.
Firefighters have extinguished a structural fire in a Mamaroneck home this evening.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 1050 Seahaven Drive, near Orienta Avenue. The home is unoccupied because it is being renovated, but contractors were working on site during the day, Chief Dean DeLitta said.
The fire appears to have started on the second floor, spread to the attic and blew out of the roof, which is when the department arrived, DeLitta said. Within about 40 minutes, they had the body of the fire under control, and within an hour the fire was out, he added.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the county's Cause and Origin team, which has interviewed the owner and contractor, DeLitta said. They will produce a report tonight.
There were approximately 60 Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department volunteers on site, and members of the Town of Mamaroneck and Harrison fire departments stood by as rescue. Police, EMS and Con Edison crews were on the scene, as well.

The extent of the damage is unknown at this time, but DeLitta confirmed that there was barely any furniture because of ongoing construction.
Soon after the fire was first reported, a helicopter flew above the scene and smoke could be seen from the Orienta Avenue intersection. As of 6:40 p.m., officials weren't not letting residents who live on that street into their homes. An hour later, a section of Orienta Avenue remained blocked.
Asked whether members of the town and village fire departments would make it on time for the "Fire on Ice" fundraiser tonight, DeLitta said, "We are down to the wire, but ready for the faceoff."
